Rewrites

After all the work and work and work and work to finish a first draft, it is sometimes hard for playwrights to face the task of writing a second draft.  But no great play was ever written in just one draft.  Rewrites are a key part of the playwriting process.

DYPF students frequently tell us they aren't sure what type of changes they are expected to make in the second draft.  Here we will show you the rewrites that two students, Davis Hammond and Casey Eros, made during their playwriting journeys.  Davis was a middle school finalist in 2007.  Casey was a high school finalist in 2005.  We hope they will give you insight into the rewriting process.
